The British and International Golf Greenkeepers' Association (BIGGA) Turf Management Exhibition (BTME) is Europe’s leading exhibition for turf professionals and buyers. The event is the largest indoor turf management and grounds care exhibition in Europe.
Held in January 2019, more than 150 exhibitors showcased the latest trends, products and innovations in the industry across four halls of Harrogate Convention Centre.
Continuing Professional Development is a key theme for the show and a comprehensive educational programme in ten theatres delivered 250 hours of development programmes. The exhibition also offered networking opportunities.
We have a long-standing working partnership with show organiser BIGGA and its annual BTME.
In November 2017, BIGGA made the decision to continue to expand the show with major changes taking effect in January 2019.
BTME has grown significantly over the 29 years we have been working with BIGGA on the event. BIGGA has achieved growth by
focussing on the look and feel of the event, as well as development of its educational content.
To improve the event for both visitors and exhibitors and to facilitate further growth, BIGGA wanted to give the exhibition a fresh look and feel to encourage long-term exhibitors to investigate new areas of the show.
Following our advice on workable area, it was agreed to increase the size of the show to include the Conference Centre, Studio One and Halls B, C, D and Q at the Harrogate Convention Centre (HCC).
Working with the operations and sales teams, we devised new floorplans to allow the organisers to strategically position key exhibitors as anchor tenants in the various halls. The change of halls also allowed for a more prominent stand for BIGGA themselves. To facilitate these changes the BIGGA team used our online floorplan service, Floorplan Live, for the first time. This enabled their team to manage their own floorplan online, from their various offices.
With these changes and to give the show a new feel to differentiate it from previous years the exhibition was split into four colour-themed zones. Working with BIGGA’s in-house designer, we produced signage for the entire venue site both inside and out to ensure visitor flow. Three teams were required to install the 550 signs over three days of show build up.
As part of the change of halls, the entrance to the event was moved to the Conference Centre, necessitating a new design for the registration areas. The solution was the installation of 19 branded registration terminals and a new feature wall was installed in Springfield House Foyer to help signpost visitors around the new layout for the expanded show. The registration terminals and feature walls were designed in agreement with HCC to ensure fire routes were maintained at all times.
We also worked with BIGGA staff to redesign their stand, which tripled in size, to reflect the organisation’s professionalism and services to members. The stand was relocated at the far end of Hall Q to help increase footfall through the halls. We produced stand graphics and built a members’ lounge, private meeting rooms and an area for health professionals specialising in outdoor healthcare issues.
We also produced graphics for a new Construction Zone which enabled visitors to view how to construct a golf green or a bunker and worked with the BTME team to design a New Product Area which showcased 15 new products on display plinths.
To service the event, we provided more than 10,000 square metres of carpet, 95 different types of furniture and over 550 direction signs and 100 branding signs.
Despite the increased scale of this year’s event, the installation took place over the usual three-day window. Our flexible approach means that regardless of the increasing number of stands and space involved in set-up, we were still able to keep to the agreed timescale.
In addition to the above, we also provided our full range of integrated event services including shell scheme, electrics, carpeting, and furniture, together with bespoke standfitting to a number of exhibitors.
With our contribution, BIGGA agreed that their objectives had been successfully achieved and that the event had a fresh look and feel.
